Captain America; First Avenger (Joe Johnston, 2011)

Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is a much less than average man trying to serve his country against the Nazis, but because of his poor physical abilities he is constantly turned down. That is until an opportunity arises for him to receive biogenetic enhancements and become Captain America. With his new abilities, he must lead the battle against the mad Nazi Scientist, The Red Skull (Hugo Weaving).
As much as you'd expect a film like this to be very 'Yay America!', it doesn't make that big a deal out of it. granted there area few moments of this occurring at various intervals, and with a title like Captain America, that is to be expected. The other major thing to remember when watching this film is the "fact" that it is set in World War 2, or rather the World War 2 of Marvel Comics. As long as you completely disregard this part of the film and just go with it, it becomes an Enjoyable experience.
That being said, there are a lot of points that let this film down. Tommy Lee Jones provides the only real humour, and a lot of the narrative is given over to Chris Evans punching the Nazi's across the screen in 3D: but if that is what you are interested in, then this film will tick all your boxes. To be honest, the most important point about the whole story is that it sets up the final player for The Avengers next summer, and after all the build up of the many other Marvel films, I for one and thoroughly anticipating the blockbuster of the summer.
Also, Stan Lee now has a habit of showing up in many of his comic adaptations. So whenever I see one, I will do a 'Stan Lee Spot' to warn you all who is the man behind the legends.
Stan Lee Spot - American General.
