When he awakens an ancient evil and brings the threat of war onto his people, the mighty warrior Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is cast out of the alien world of Asgard by his father King Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and sent to the planet Earth. There he must learn to temper his fighting spirit and learn the lessons he father taught whilst in the care of Scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). But his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) has other plans in mind.
Another adaptation of a popular marvel comic book, the story of Thor according to Marvel tells of how the ancient norse gods are actually aliens who protect the planet, and this film certainly lives up to that expectation. Not only that, but it sets up another couple of players in the upcoming Avengers film set for 2012 (including one character who has 5 seconds of screen time and makes more of an impression that any other character). The all star cast gives various levels of performance: whether its the quality acting level of Anthony Hopkins or Thor's warrior friends who are purely there for comic relief. The design of the various races seen through out the story are thoroughly thought through and really help to set the scene. And of course, it wouldn't be a proper critique of a Marvel film without commenting on the action: spectacular and extreme on a 'godly' level. A fun time for any audience.
