Dragon Crusaders (Mark Atkins, 2011)

When a group of ex-Templar Knights are accidentally cursed to turn into monstrous gargoyles, they must journey across the land to find the sorcerer who wrote the curse and destroy him, before it consumes them all. But evil hearts fuel the curse, and as the knights fall further into despair, their quest becomes a race against time, before they turn into the hideous beasts.
There was a lot about this film that deserves credit for a B movie, but twice as much that lets it down completely. The story itself is pretty interesting, if a little simple. But it's simple in a conventional sense - it isn't a clever story its your basic questing knights film. The cinematography and editing is pretty decent, and the special effects are ok (again its a B movie so don't expect the same level as Lord of the Rings), but there are some glaring issues with continuity - magically replenishing quivers of arrows. Probably the worst of these moments in the film is when the knights climb aboard a yacht (no not a medieval barge or even a remotely old looking boat, but the sort of ship you'd see in Mamma Mia) and frankly that spoiled what otherwise looked to be a decent film. The acting is enthusiastic: most of the cast give it their best shot even if their performance comes off a little wooden. There is even a certain degree of thought given to the historical accuracy of the film (apart from the whole dragons and sorcery side of things).
So in the end, Dragon Crusaders had the potential to be a decent film, but it ends up being basic entertainment - something to have on in the background without needing to concentrate.
