6 months after the death of his wife, adventure writer Benjamin Mee (Matt Damon) is struggling to keep it together and take care of his young daughter Rosie (Maggie Elizabeth Jones) and delinquent son Dylan (Colin Ford). One day he decides to start a fresh and thinks he has found the perfect house, with one minor detail - the house comes with a working zoo. Against the ill wishes of his brother (Thomas Haden Church), Benjamin decides to take a chance and now has to get the zoo up to working standards with the help of his new coworker Kelly Foster (Scarlett Johansson) before they open in a few months.
A good heartwarming film, thats all this is and all it needs to be. It is fun all around, nothing greatly exciting, the kind of film you watch on a sunday afternoon. The story (based on a real story, apparently) is a good laugh, it should echo with everyone because, and be honest, who hasn't wanted to own a zoo at some point. The cinematography and editing mixes fantastically and is filled with great shots of the exotic animals. The acting is incredible, from fun childhood characters to crazy workers, every position has been filled.
There isn't much more to say about We bought a Zoo because it is a simple idea and a simple film, but one that is guaranteed to give everyone a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
