John J. (Duval) is an average old man living in New York. He has a girlfriend (Kathy Baker) with a daughter and enjoys tango lessons in his local bar - run by a gangster boss (Frank Gio) who John works for as an assassin. One of his Assassination jobs sends him to Argentina to help a family of freedom fighters kill an old general. However before John can kill him, the man ends up in hospital and John has to wait for him to be released. So he spends his time getting to learn authentic Tango from local dancer Manuela (Luciana Pedraza).
Despite the premise of the film, the overall story moves at a snails pace, making the whole experience feel dull an torpid. True, the scenes of Tango dancing are beautifully captured on screen and when the assassination finally happens the story picks up. Duval's performance is cleverly done and his play off the other characters and even when he talks to himself is entertaining. However all this comes much too late in the narrative, and the result is one long wait for something interesting to happen. The first time a gun a fired, the entire audience jumps in their seats from where they had been passed out.
