Priority Moments

For those who don't fully understand how the film industry works, here is a bit of a lesson into where the money is coming from.
Normally, there are 3 ways a film can get financed. The Director can pay for himself: usually harder to do especially for first timers, and the money often comes from friends and family. Or he can start small, make a film that makes some money (not A lot just some) then use that money to finance his next work and so on and so forth.
The other main way to get money is from the Government. Governments usually have a bunch of schemes and a small portion of the country funds that go towards the film industry, either by financing the various industries or through reward schemes from film festivals (you win, you get £1000 etc).
That was before the Government here in England has decided they will only start funding films that it considers a priority: for those who don't know these are films that are certain to make a lot of money or that they feel will definitely make some bread. What this means is that 1/3rd of the finance for all future film makers is now GONE. What could those big wigs be thinking? its an effective strangle hold on the entertainment industry. Though to be fair, this did come from the minds who are putting in a new train line that nobody wants.
