Jonah Hex (Jimmy Hayward, 2010)

When his family is killed and he himself is left to die by a vengeful commanding officer, Confederate soldier Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin) is left scared and fated to walk the earth half dead in search for vengeance. When he discovers his enemy Quentin Turnbull (John Malcovich) is still alive and active, Hex is determined to hunt him down and stop his evil plans.
For those who may not know, Jonah Hex is one of the more obscure of DC comic's heroes. He is basically a cowboy who can speak with the dead and roams across post civil war america as a bounty hunter. As long as you treat this film in the same way, it actually isn't that bad. There is a good deal of gunslinging/comic booky action that is enjoyable and exciting to watch. The story isn't too complicated, a basic anti hero seeking revenge. Nothing wrong with that, it's a classic western theme. Brolin's acting isn't too bad for the part he is playing, but none of the other actors/actresses really stand out as being overly interesting, with the exception of Michael Fassbender playing a wonderfully insane irish villain. Megan Fox also stars in this film, and everyone knows there is a thing about her being type cast, but personally i think casting her a prostitute is just going a little far. There is some interesting uses of lighting in the film, but sometimes everything gets too dark and hard to see. The editing too isn't bad overall, there are some moments though where it feels a little messy and makes the action on screen difficult to follow.
Jonah Hex isn't a bad film if you watch it for what it is: a comic book film based on western stories. If you watch it for that reason, then it becomes very enjoyable, but otherwise it just becomes a little laughable.
