A hard hitting and true account of the first all black regiment in America, Glory tells the story of the formation of the 54th massachusetts, taken from the letters and history of its commanding officer Robert E Shaw (played by Matthew Broderick)
This is a seriously hard hitting film, dealing with issues of racism and segregation on both sides of the civil war in America. Lead by an all star cast, including both Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman, it shows how the members of that regiment had to deal with the threat of execution and return to slavery on one side of the war, and being treated as a joke on the other. Thinking about it in todays terms, it can get pretty harsh, but that makes it all the more powerful a film, a fact boosted by echoing cinematography, heart stopping music and the harsh reality of Racism in America.
